Information Retrieval System for Phd Abstract

Information Retrieval System for Phd Abstract also known as PHDBay – SMART Phd Abstract Retrieval is a web-based information retrieval system to analyze the title or research area and checks if the keywords key-in is already related to any title or area of research by scanning thoroughly the Phd abstract and displaying any related title and abstract on the same page. Identical research titles and area has been a problem for lecturers and the university itself. It is hard to analyze identical research titles and areas since the university did not provide any system for searching and analyzing Phd research titles and abstracts.

The aims of this project are to develop a system that consists of storing and retrieving data in database for USM and at the same time organizing the existing abstract based on different category, searching thoroughly in Phd abstract any keywords that were entered in the search field, and helping in saving time and budget while analyzing on the title or area of the research. This system has a combination of analytic feature, machine learning tools (RapidMiner) using K-means clustering algorithm to cluster data, string-matching algorithm (Naïve Algorithm) and database.

This is very helpful to avoid identical title or area of research. The results are to be highly accurate, the time of analyzing is shortened and no identical title of research in USM. With this system, the quality of research papers around USM will increase since there is no identical title and there are new areas of research that USM can focus on.
