Animated Time Series Data Visualization for Geospatial Events
In today's digital world where Industry 4.0 brought up the fourth industrial revolution with the utilization of computers and automation, time series data is abundant and can be found in any sector. This kind of data is growing exponentially with time in terms of volume and complexity, in which traditional static data visualization tools are no longer suitable or compatible to process them efficiently. In some specific geospatial-related fields, such as disaster and epidemic, time series data are extremely important for us to see the pattern and discover hidden insights so that we can make early preparation for the impact. Hence, a web application titled Glance will be proposed to create an interactive dashboard that will integrate animated time series data visualization for geospatial events. It will allow users to make customization on how and which data attributes to be animated.
The customizable features suit the different needs of users and give them full power to manipulate the data as they wish. It will also generate informative notifications based on data statistics for every animation frame so users are always aware of the data trend. This will ease data analytical processes with animated visualization on the historical data and facilitate the derivation of hidden insights. It will be a client-server architecture in which client requests the data and server deals with the data. Glance will use Python as backend to carry out the business logic and animated visualization while Dash (Python framework for web application) will be used as frontend to seamlessly build dashboards with HTML and CSS.
