Corrosion Analysis Tool (CAT)

Corrosion is an electrochemical reaction which is a common catastrophic failure of metallic materials. The traditional way of corrosion analysis involves the researcher to collect data using an electrode sensor in the field side and attempt the analysis process in the lab. Hence, there is a lack of automation, mobilization, and prediction in the traditional way. Corrosion Analysis Tool (CAT) is proposed as a solution to automate the analyzing process by utilizing artificial intelligence techniques. Regression analysis is applied to enhance the analysis process, perform prediction, and improve the integrity of the data. Cloud computing is deployed in this project as a computing platform to replace physical servers or computers. A mobile application has been developed for researchers to analyse the corrosion rate and eliminate human calculation error.
Corrosion Analysis Tool (CAT) consists of 3 main components, which are the potentiostat microcontroller, mobile application, and back-end services. CAT is a system that capable to help chemistry researchers to automate and simplify the corrosion analysis process. The required data will be gathered from the integrated graphite pencil electrode with potentiostat microcontroller. The collected data is then transferred to the mobile application and finally it will be uploaded to the back-end services to perform corrosion analysis calculation. Consequently, the analysed result will be displayed to the user in the form of a visualisation allowing the user to study the target corrosion material. Additionally, CAT also comes with data prediction capability to predict the corrosion rate for the future preparation purpose.
The Back-end services of Corrosion Analysis Tool are developed using cloud service technology provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS). The main cloud services used in AWS includes S3, DynamoDB, Lambda function, Cognito and API Gateway. Cloud services are primary used for providing user login authentication, corrosion analysis, corrosion rate prediction and data storage including user data and experimental data.
