Automatic Fake News Identifier is proposed to automatically collect and verifies a rumor is a fake news in Malaysia. Users can also report any article that contains fake news using this system as it provides platform to report any fake news.
A web crawler at the back end download and indexes news content from sebenarnya.my website. All news from this website have been confirmed by MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission). When a user wants to verify a rumor, they can type in the phrases of the articles. The verification module using tf-idf is used to determine whether a rumor is found in sebenarnya.my. The verification module will match the phrase/query with the articles. If a match is found then the rumors will verify if it is a fake or valid news.
Other than that, user can report any news that is fake using this platform. The fake news will be reported to Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia. CMCF is a self-regulatory agency that can control content in compliance with the Content Code by self-regulation. The CMCF Complaints Bureau has been investigating issues relating to content over an electronic networked medium in the implementation of the Content Code since 2004.
This project is expected to enhance the quality and experiences of people habits on reading news from unknown resources, improve the quality of news and lastly increasing the exposure of new fake news identifier application. It is hoped that this application will increase the exposure about identifying fake news.
