I am Ming Li, a final year student in Universiti Sains Malaysia. I am majoring in Software Engineering and minoring in Management. I have completed my final year project, which scope is to develop an Online Classified Advertisement exclusively for USM community which I called USMers'. I also embed automatic image detection to enrich my project. As a computer science student, I am passionate to build a solution to aid everyday life problem faced by everyone in general and of course my friends and me specifically. USM-Centric Pre-Loved Online Classified Ads (USMers')
Students’ life is always in transient mode. Students’ time are heavily segregated into semester and within that semester, students need different textbooks, different tools or furniture, different appliances and most of the time it is for a short-term basis. They are always looking to get rid of their used stuff as well as purchasing stuff to fulfill their various needs. Other than academic and daily life necessity, some students also look for part-time jobs to cover their livelihood expenses and finding rental accommodation outside of university campus area, since there is a probability that they are not being shortlisted in the university’s accommodation list. To facilitate their ever-changing pace, a good platform that can provide all these needs will be beneficial for mutual parties.
This project provides a platform of an online classified advertisement called USMers’. The project focus on the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) members’; student and staff alike. It is a localized apps which facilitates USM members to:
1) sell and buy pre-loved and brand-new items,
2) offer or find rental accommodations, and
3) offer or search for part-time job opening
An aided user browsing experience is implemented for users so the system able to provide a geo-sorting function in which for pre-loved products, the listing is based on the geographical area of the user. In addition, object detection technique is also implemented to enable search by image, which will make it easier for users to find items that they are not sure of its’ name.
