UNIC Recommendation System
In everyday life, it is necessary for people to make choices and decisions and it is unknown whether the choices are good or bad. For example, when a person went to a restaurant either once or twice it is normal for that person to take some time to look at the menu and decide what to order or there may be times the waiter or waitress of the restaurant come and ask and if you still have not decide then they will start to recommend their restaurant popular dishes.
Recommendation system is a system which can predict user interest in a thing and thus recommend the other similar things to the users. Therefore, recommendation system is widely used in many areas such as music, drama and movies. The students that recently complete their STPM, matriculation or diploma might have trouble in selecting their courses offered from the universities and institutions within a time limit before the courses from the respective universities and institutions begin their first semester. Thus, UNIC recommendation system is proposed to solve this problem. This system will help the students to identify the courses that is suitable to them for their future. The objectives of this system are to identify which courses are suitable for the students based on their results and interests. The techniques that will be used to develop this system are content-based method and collaborative filtering method. Both these techniques can help to overcome weakness of each other because the combination of the two techniques will predict more accurate results from the recommendation system. This recommendation system should be able to help the recently completed STPM, matriculation, and diploma students to select the courses that is suitable to them so that they will not regret of their decisions.
