Companies that provide pick-up and delivery service in their business are required to plan their daily routes with multiple destinations. The efficiency of the pick-up and delivery services can be improved by having an automated route planner. In this project, we work together with a biscuit company in Melaka, which requires an automated route planner to solve their route planning problem. In 2020, a prototype has been developed for the company. The prototype consists of a web application that automates route planning and delivery rescheduling. It also consists of a mobile application that provides detailed delivery and pick-up information to drivers.
This project is aimed to enhance the prototype. The enhancement includes performing weekly route planning instead of daily route planning. The implementation of workload balancing in route assignment based on cumulative distance travelled is also proposed to overcome any unfair assignments. Another enhancement is planning route with time window constraint in addition to the capacity constraint. Finally, a descriptive analytics dashboard is also proposed for the web application to provide insights and statistics related to delivery performance and route planning efficiency.
