VIBES : Vibration Integrated Braille Enhanced Storybook.

While the advancement of technology might offer a faster option for reading, there is less support for Braille due to the belief that technology such as screen readers can replace Braille. Braille literacy is important for blind children to have a successful education and quality of life. This is because learning Braille is rich in vocabulary knowledge and they will know how to spell certain words. By looking at the huge impact that Braille has and the blind community's dependency on tactile senses, VIBES is expected to increase the awareness of learning Braille by having prior Braille knowledge to understand the vibration pattern in VIBES. Children who are blind should be given the same education rights as their peers.

VIBES is a system developed to aid blind children to read digital storybooks by incorporating the concept of Braille Level 2 and vibration module into one single system. It replaces the mainstream screen reader method without eliminating the importance of Braille literacy. Inspired by the traditional Braille system, a set of dots positioned by numbers from 1 to 6 are defined for the vibration pattern. The application will analyze the word into a Braille pattern and convert it to vibration.

By holding their phone magnetically attached to VIBES casing, users can understand the braille-to-vibration pattern through haptic senses. The application will analyze each word into its Braille symbol and then convert it to it respective vibration pattern. User will be able to differentiate each character through different vibration intensities generated by VIBES casing. Consist of software and hardware component, it is designed to cater all type of android phone model in the market. Both components will be communicating through Bluetooth connection. It will replace the expensive assistive devices as VIBES hardware component is made out of low-cost material.
