MET Alert is a project that aims to improve the Weather Warning Alert system in Malaysia. Other than weather warning alert, the project objectives include providing Weather Forecast and Danger Alert. This project consists of two parts, mobile and web application. Mobile application is mainly for users whereas web application is for admin and authorities. The mobile applications include functionality such as Weather Forecast, Weather Warning Alert and Danger Alert, whereas the web application includes functionality such as Account Management, Weather Warning and Forecast Management, and Danger Alert management. The project use data from Malaysia Meteorological Department (MET) through their API for both Weather Warning Alert and Weather Forecast. The MET Alert app is capable to send out weather warning alert to those people in areas affected mentioned in the alert. The second objective of this project, which is Danger Alert is created for admin and authorities' use. User can only report danger to the system through the mobile application. Once reported, nearby authorities will be assigned to verify the report. Once verified, the system will send out alert to all users who is nearby the reported area. One of the project outcomes of this project is improved effectiveness of weather warning alert due to only affected people are alerted. Next, reduced loss, damages, and casualties because the app provides help to provide early notification of weather and danger alert. In conclusion, MET Alert is a project to improve the weather warning alert in Malaysia and provide danger alert to its user so that he can be better prepared against extreme weather and danger.
