IMNEP - Game and video-based Intervention Package for Childhood Obesity

Childhood obesity is a serious health issue that needs attention from the society as it involves children who are likely in the risk of suffering from health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that behavior and genetics are said to be the main cause for excess weight gain among children. Behaviors like eating foods containing high-calorie and low-nutrient, improper sleep routines, not being active physically and spending time on doing sedentary activities lead to becoming obese. Besides that, a persons community can affect the ability to make healthy choices as it can be difficult to do so in environments that do not support healthy habits. Children nowadays are getting exposed to technology at a very young age and they tend to spend more time on mobile devices and gadgets instead of doing physical activities. As a result of this sedentary lifestyle, they start to gain weight and sooner or later that weight gain problem leads to obesity that risks their health. Therefore, a game and video-based intervention tool known as Interactive Multimedia-based Nutrition Education Package (IMNEP) is proposed as a solution to overcome the problems and improve obesity outcomes among children. This digital intervention tool is expected to provide children and their parents or caretakers with precise dietary guidelines related to childhood obesity and encourage them to practice healthy eating habits and be active physically.
